Enlightened Myanmar Research Foundation (EMReF) is a non-profit and non-governmental social science research organization based in Yangon. The IDRC and EMReF now have been carrying out the long term research project called “Engendering Political Recruitment and Participation at the Party, Local and National Level in Myanmar” under the Livelihood and Gender Program of EMReF. So, EMReF is now seeking a qualified applicant for “Communications Officer” position for this project.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The specific duties and responsibilities of communication officer will include providing necessary support in the following works:

Monthly Bulletin (Myanmar and English)

  • Collect all updated information of the project and organization;
  • Assemble all relevant and important information;
  • Translate Myanmar into English and vice versa;
  • Submit the information to a layout designer;
  • Publish it on EMReF Website and Facebook Page;
  • Disseminate it to the partners.

Media and Communication

  • Assist team members in communicating with CSOs, government officers and authorities;
  • Assist in record keeping management in relation to project’s activities;
  • Manage the Project’s communication (e.g. photo, video, audio) database and tools (such as website, Facebook page);
  • Advice and arrange on outreach activities with press and other communication target groups;
  • Develop and maintain relevant databases, including media contacts.
  • Coordinate and produce published promotional content, including reports, posters, brochures

Communication Strategy

  • Contribute to the development of Program’s and EMReF’s communication strategies;
  • Oversee the project communications strategy and activities related to project outreach;
  • Analyze and support monitoring of communication activities and assessment of impacts and results.

Event Management

  • Cooperate with the team to organize and arrange for events and research projects;
  • Liaise with key event partners and significant stakeholders to build positive working relationships;
  • Ensure all events run effectively and within the allocated budget.

Internal Communication

  • Collaborate with the Program Support Team to co-ordinate interactive engagement activities between individuals and across EMReF teams.

Other Support

  • Collaborate with the Program Support Team to co-ordinate interactive engagement activities between individuals and across EMReF teams;
  • Manage to response to the Facebook messages and comments;
  • Translate other materials from English to Myanmar or vice versa whenever necessary;
  • Perform any other duties/activities at the direction of immediate supervisor.

SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS

  • A university degree required;
  • Fluency in written and spoken Myanmar and English is required;
  • At least 1-2 years’ experiences in related field (communication, media and public relations);
  • Have strong knowledge in Gender and Women’s development
  • Able to work and follow-up independently
  • Excellent computer skills and understanding of database management;
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills, including the ability to effectively negotiate and liaise with a wide cross section of people, including internal staff, partners, service providers and the wider community;
  • Show cultural, gender, religion, race, nationality and age sensitivity and adaptability;
  • Able to work under stress;
  • Able to operate, think and argue at professional level;
  • Existing relationships and networks within media is plus;
  • Demonstrate ability to create teams and promote teamwork

REPORTING

  • Report to immediate supervisor of the project
